How Parents Can Plug In
Surveys have been taken and consistently students have said, "The most influential person in my
life is my parent." More than any coach, teacher, friend, or pastor -- students really do look
to their parents for guidance. We believe that God has changed parents to be the
primary spiritual instructors for their children.
Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Deuteronomy 6:20-25 Ephesians 6
The Student Ministries of North-Mar Church exist to support, compliment, and affirm the parents as they raise their children to follow the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
We never want to undermine or neglect the family, rather we always want to empower, support, and be a super resource for each family.
* Be a Good Mom! Be a Good Dad!
Recent studies reaffirm an age-old truth: parents are the most influential factor on their children's
values, morals, and faith! We recognize the role of our Student Ministry is not to parent your child,
but to support parents! We would never want to rob Mom and Dad of their God-given
responsibilities and privileges. The most effective way to support our Student Ministry is to be a
good Mom .. a good Dad! Your role is life-changing!
* Pray! Pray! Pray!
Understanding the reality of spiritual battles coupled with needs, temptations, and struggles that
teens face, our Student Ministry needs your prayer support. Please pray for our students, all our
families, high schools, and for our Youth Leaders.
* Visit Us Anytime on Wednesday or Thursday Night! Check Us Out!
See with your own eyes what is going on and what is being taught. You'll discover that there's a
place for you to serve!
* Transportation
If you and/or your vehicle is available for transporting our students to an event or a retreat we
would be very grateful for your help. Please contact Pastor Paul Armitage or Pastor Nathan Sliter
and let him know that we can place you on our list of individuals to call when these needs arise.
CORE VALUES OF OUR STUDENT MINISTRIES
Student Ministry is more than fun events, crazy games, and a short
teaching time. Everything we do has a purpose. That purpose comes from what
we call our Core Values. Our Core Values guide us and ultimately dictate
how
we organize and flesh-out our ministry to students. If an event doesn't
support any of our Core Values,
we will not do it.
Lifestyle Worship
Eugene
Peterson in the "The Message" translation of the Bible summed up Romans 12:1
when he says: "Take your everyday, ordinary life - your sleeping, eating,
going-to-work, and walking-around life - and place it before God as an
offering." This is lifestyle worship ... loving and bringing glory to God
not only in Church on Sunday, but at school on a Monday and on a volleyball
court on a Tuesday evening. We want students to worship God in every aspect
of their life.
Romans 12:1
Psalm 95:6
1 Chronicles 16:29
Spiritual Disciplines
We
value spiritual disciplines. Just as an athlete needs to discipline himself
during training, a follower of Jesus must develop their spiritual
disciplines in their lives. Tithing, joyful living, prayer, confession, and
the study of Scripture are a few of the disciplines that we encourage
students to value. In the New Testament, Paul encourages believers to "train
yourselves in godliness." Spiritual transformation is a not a matter of
trying hard, but of training smarter and being intentional.
1 Timothy 4:7-8
2 Timothy 3:16
Truth
In our pluralistic
world where there are many opinions and ways to define and interpret
"truth," we believe that absolute truth can be found in God's Word - the
Bible. We want students to believe, trust and anchor their decisions, their
future and their entire life on the absolute truth of God's Word. God's
truth has stood the test of time, is entirely accurate and can be fully
trusted. God's truth is real!
2 Timothy 3:16
Hebrews 4:12
John 8:31-32
Servanthood
We value
servanthood because Jesus Himself modeled this lifestyle. Jesus called every
one of His followers to live unselfishly. Galatians 5:13 has this challenge:
"Serve on another in live." Sounds simple? It really isn't. It's extremely
difficult for a student to live this way in our me-centered world. So we're
calling students to serve others and live unselfishly.
Mark 10:31
Mission
We believe as
followers of Jesus Christ, we have been given a mission. Acts 1:18 describes
this mission when it says, "you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in
all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." We want students to
have a burden not only for their friends in high school, but we want them to
be equally burdened for people of their country and those on the other side
of the earth! Basically, we want students to be globally minded ... seeking
to live out the mission Jesus gave us.
Matthew 28:19-20
Community
God created and
designed us to live and grow in relationships, first with Him and second
with another (Genesis 1-2). Acts 2:42 calls believers in Jesus to study
God's Word together, walk life together, celebrate what Jesus has done
together, and to pray together. We want to provide opportunities where
students can find this type of authentic community.
